Photogrammania

February 23, ICP at THE POINT Monday Preteen Class: The theme for our winter course is Personal Vision, and for one of our first activities we made photograms. For these types of images, we did not use a “camera.” The entire darkroom is the camera: the photo paper is the film, and the enlarger provides the light. We placed objects brought from home, as well as objects from the classroom, on photo paper and exposed them to light. The shapes of the objects created mysterious images. Some of the objects we used included:

  • House keys
  • Jewelry
  • Thumbtacks
  • Plastic flowers
  • Hair
  • A plastic snowflake
  • A glass candy dish
  • Toys
  • Pens
  • Starfish

We are also learning about editing from contact sheets and creating portfolios. We are excited to see (and post) more images made with our 35mm cameras so far this winter!

We hope you enjoy our photograms as much as we liked making them!
